by rockcetera on Nov.17, 2010, under Rock Music

The dates for The Final Frontier UK Tour 2011 are:
JULY
- Wed 20 Scotland, Glasgow SECC
- Thu 21 Scotland, Aberdeen AECC P&J Arena
- Sat 23 England, Newcastle Metro Radio Arena
- Sun 24 England, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena

- Thu 28 England, Manchester MEN Arena
- Sun 31 England, Birmingham NIA
AUGUST
- Mon 1 Wales, Cardiff CIA Arena
- Wed 3 Northern Ireland, Belfast Odyssey
- Fri 5 England, London 02 Arena
Maiden founder member Steve Harris comments; “Everything in the Maiden camp has been so full on these last five years or so that we haven’t travelled around the UK to play for our home fans for almost that long. These fans supported us by coming to Twickenham Stadium, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Download and more recently Sonisphere so we thought we should get off our backsides and do the travelling this time and get round the country to see them all. We very much look forward to playing all four home countries and a couple of places we haven’t been for a very long time, Aberdeen and Belfast! And playing the O2 gets us as close to the East End of London where Maiden started off than we have been for many a year, probably since the Ruskin Arms! All in all l think this is going to be a very special series of shows and a wonderful way to end this whole world tour.”
“We intend to take the full stadium show into the UK arenas and fit everything we possibly can into each venue. The set list will be different to this year’s tour. Of course we will play more songs from the new album and some other recent material, but we intend to include a healthy dose of older fan favourites too for those who haven’t seen us before , plus a spectacular light show and stage set, not forgetting, of course, ….Eddie!”
The UK shows will be the culmination of The Final Frontier World Tour, which began in June 2010 with a hugely successful 25 date tour throughout North America, followed by selected European stadium and festival shows, including Knebworth, Sonisphere in the UK.
The band recently announced the first leg of the 2011 tour which starts in February and will be ‘Around The World In 66 Days’ – a fifty thousand mile odyssey aboard a specially customized Boeing 757 – Ed Force One, piloted by airline captain and lead singer Bruce Dickinson. This will carry band, crew and many tons of equipment across 5 continents to thirteen countries, visiting 26 cities for 29 shows
The first show will be on Feb 11th in Moscow’s Olympic Stadium, after which the Boeing 757, which will have new designs to tie in with the new album and tour, will fly the band to Singapore and Indonesia for Maiden’s first ever shows there, before arriving in Australia to headline two arena dates and five Soundwave Festivals. EF1 then turns its attention briefly to the Northern Hemisphere with a first show ever in South Korea and two shows in Tokyo, before heading all the way across the Pacific, a journey which (believe it or not!) is 6660 miles, for two shows in Mexico. An extensive series of stadium shows through five South American countries follows, and, via Puerto Rico, the band will play the final show on this leg of the tour in Tampa, Florida, USA on April 17th, exactly 66 days after Moscow! (full dates below)
Says Bruce, “We were taken aback by the fantastic reaction from everyone to EF1 during the 2008/09 World Tour. As our fans all know from the “Flight 666” film, which documented the trials and tribulations we underwent in order to get the whole project literally off the ground, the end result was well worth all the effort and complex logistics we had to deal with! The band and crew enjoyed themselves so much travelling that way, it seemed only logical to set up this part of The Final Frontier tour in the same way so we could get to see as many fans as possible all over the World, only this time we’re pushing the boundaries even further and going to more places Maiden has never been before… in true Frontier style!! We very much look forward to playing in Singapore, Indonesia and South Korea for the first time, as well as revisiting our fans elsewhere.”
This Around The World tour will be followed by an extensive series of European dates starting late Spring. Nordic and Russian shows have already been announced (as below) and there are many more dates to follow, before Maiden comes home to the UK in July. It will be an historic return for a number of reasons, not least as it will be the first time the band has played in Aberdeen since their first UK headline tour back in 1980! And although the band played earlier this year in the Republic Of Ireland at Dublin’s O2 Arena, it was 1993 when they last performed in Belfast, so shows in these cities are well overdue! The last show of the tour will see Maiden’s first ever performance at London’s O2 Arena.
The Final Frontier World Tour is in conjunction with the band’s 15th studio album released in August through EMI Music and their most successful chart album to date, registering the #1 sales chart slot in 28 countries around the globe; from Lebanon, Arabia and India in the East, to Canada in the West, New Zealand down South, throughout UK and Europe and across Latin America, as well as reaching No.1 in Billboard’s European, Tastemaker and Rock Charts, and No.4 in the USA, which is the band’s highest position ever there.
Wherever possible, members of the Iron Maiden Fan Club will get the opportunity to win The First To The Barrier competition where 60 lucky members (plus a guest each) get the chance to enter the venue before the general public and grab themselves a prime viewing position right by the front of the stage barrier.
As well as competition entry to ‘First to The Barrier’ access on show day, there will be an exclusive first ticket pre-sale for Iron Maiden Fan club members, before tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday November 20th. Information on this special pre-sale will be posted on www.ironmaiden.com

Journey Foreigner & Styx – First Ever UK Tour Together – 2011
by rockcetera on Nov.10, 2010, under Rock Music
JOURNEY FOREIGNER & STYX Announce First Ever UK Tour Together in 2011
Wednesday 10th November 2010 – Journey, Foreigner and Styx, three of the biggest names in Classic Rock, have today announced that they will be heading to the UK in June 2011 to play 5 cities together for the very first time in the UK.
Journey – Neal Schon (guitars, backing vocals), Jonathan Cain (keyboards, backing vocals), Ross Valory (bass, backing vocals), Deen Castronovo (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Arnel Pineda (lead vocals) – have performed around the world for nearly two years in support of the group’s latest recording project, Revelation. A three-disc CD/DVD package, Revelation sold more than 104,000 copies its first week, marking the band’s biggest first week’s sales in over a decade. Produced by Kevin Shirley, the album marks a new chapter in the band’s legendary career. The New York Times hailed: “…the band seems to have taken rock vitamins: it feels alive.” Revelation earned Platinum honors, marking their 11th Platinum album certification to date. There will be a brand new studio album from Journey out in the UK in Spring next year.
Journey plays with a passion and commitment that wows both longtime fans and new generations of listeners alike. ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’, arguably their biggest hit, made it back into the Top Ten last year as part of a Facebook campaign to get the track to the Christmas #1 spot. It is the most downloaded catalogue track in the history of iTunes and has featured heavily in some of the biggest TV shows across the board in the last 12 months, having been sung by winner Joe McElderry on The X-Factor as well as the contestants on 2010’s final Big Brother recording it as part of a task and the cast of the hit US show ‘Glee’ making it a huge anthem for a whole new generation.
More than a million fans attended their shows since 2008 to hear new hit singles “Never Walk Away” and “After All These Years” as well as the staggering catalogue of hits such as “Don’t Stop Believin’” “Any Way You Want It,” “Open Arms,” and “Separate Ways.”
On their return to the UK, Neal Schon said
“We’re so excited to be coming back to the UK to play arenas with our friends Foreigner and Styx. Be prepared to hear a lot of hit songs”
More than 30 years after releasing their first multi-platinum album, Foreigner’s music resonates globally across generations, thanks to an impressive run of 14 Top 20 hits, including worldwide number one hit ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’, ‘Waiting For A Girl Like You’ and video game staples such as ‘Hot Blooded’ and ‘Juke Box Hero’, together with album sales exceeding 70 million. Foreigner’s 2010 United In Rock tour electrified audiences and established the group in its rightful place as one of the top touring attractions of the year in the US. Their latest release, ‘Can’t Slow Down’, broke many Classic Rock sales records and spawned two Top 20 singles on US radio. ‘Can’t Slow Down’ was the band’s first album of new music in more than 15 years. Mick Jones, the band’s founder and legendary songwriter/guitarist, produced the new album with Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith and Buckcherry). It entered the Billboard Top 200 in the Top 30 on its first week of release and it is the first full length album to feature Foreigner’s revamped lineup: Jones, singer Kelly Hansen, bassist Jeff Pilson, guitarist Tom Gimbel and keyboardist Michael Bluestein.
Foreigner’s new live album ‘Can’t Slow Down – When It’s Live’ is released on earMUSIC (distributed in the UK by Absolute via Universal) November 15th 2010. Jones adds
“This will be one of the main events of the summer. Bands who represent the magic era in Classic Rock together for the first time in my home country. Get ready to rock!”
Spawned from a suburban Chicago basement in the early ‘70s, STYX would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late ’70s and early ’80s, due to a fondness for big rockers and soaring power ballads. Over the course of their 38-year career they’ve released 15 studio albums, 6 best-of compilations and 4 live albums, garnering 8 Top Ten singles. STYX has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. On the touring front, STYX has performed more shows since ’99 than all of the previous years of its career combined. Two Super-Bowl appearances, Pollstar box office chart-topping tours with Def Leppard, Journey, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company, Foreigner (to name a few), two more studio albums and no end in sight, STYX continues to conquer the planet, one venue at a time.
“Styx has always enjoyed sharing the stage with Journey, going back to the Santa Monica Civic Center in 1976. The tour we did with them in 2003 across the United States was an amazing success of sold out arenas. Journey, Foreigner & Styx seems like a can’t miss “Guitars a-blazin’” ”Vocals a-mazing” kind of a Classic Rock Evening!” - James “JY” Young
The tour will be sponsored by the brand new title from Future Publishing’s latest title Classic Rock Presents AOR, editor Geoff Barton had the following to say
“With melodic rock on the resurgence, this tour is going to be one of the must-sees of 2011. We’re happy to set the ball rolling by featuring Journey on the cover of our brand new magazine, Classic Rock Presents AOR, which goes on sale on November 17. And, of course, with Journey’s classic song Don’t Stop Believin’ enjoying a brand new lease of life, it was only right that the track, making it back into the Top Ten nearly 30 years after its release, would be in the running to receive ‘Event Of The Year’ at our prestigious Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards.’

Top Gigs – Roger Waters “The Wall Live” – 2011
by rockcetera on Oct.23, 2010, under Rock Music
Roger Waters – The Wall – Live!

ROGER WATERS MARKS 30th ANNIVERSARY OF ‘’THE WALL’’ ALBUM WITH HISTORIC 30-CITY EUROPEAN TOUR IN 2011
Roger Waters, the creative genius behind musical pioneers Pink Floyd, is set to bring his groundbreaking masterpiece, The Wall, to Europe in 2011.This is the first time The Wall has been performed in over 20 years. Roger Waters’ The Wall will trek through over 25 European cities to mark the 30th anniversary of the album’s release and with Roger hinting that this could mark his final big tour, it is already promising to be one of the hottest tickets of the decade.
Beginning in March 2011, Roger Waters’ The Wall Tour will visit the following destinations: Lisbon (Portugal), Madrid (Spain), Barcelona (Spain), Milan (Italy), Arnhem (The Netherlands), Budapest (Hungary), Prague (Czech Republic), Lodz (Poland), Moscow (Russia), St Petersburg (Russia), Helsinki (Finland), Oslo (Norway), Stockholm (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), London (UK), Manchester (UK), Dublin (Ireland), Antwerp (Belgium), Paris (France), Mannheim (Germany), Zurich (Switzerland), Hamburg (Germany), Berlin (Germany) and Dusseldorf (Germany).
Previously the show was simply too large to contemplate a tour, but new arenas and advances in touring technology have solved that dilemma. Now, after months of meticulous planning, Waters has updated the look and feel of the show to ensure it matches the astonishing theatrical extravaganza that The Wall’s live incarnation became so legendary for – thus allowing yet another generation to be inspired by the grandeur of the breathtaking visual and aural spectacle. The show starts with the wall broken down and throughout the first half bricks are built. The second half is played with the wall completely built. Roger Waters is developing dynamic new video graphics and visual images to illustrate the story and the songs, using an 8,000 sq ft wall as a huge screen.
The show features all the Roger Waters scale grandeur and special effects such as original Gerald Scarfe imagery, crashing aeroplane, quadraphonic sound, pyrotechnics, spot pods, gigantic inflatable puppets, projection, video mapping and many elaborate effects. Rogers band on this world tour is: Dave Kilminster (Guitar), Snowy White (Guitar), G. E. Smith (Guitar), Jon Carin (Keyboards), Harry Waters (Keyboards), Graham Broad (Drums), Robbie Wyckoff, Jon Joyce (Backing Vocals), Michael Lennon (Backing Vocals), Mark Lennon (Backing Vocals), Kipp Lennon (Backing Vocals).
“Thirty years ago when I wrote The Wall, I was a frightened young man,” he recalls. “In the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.”
Boasting Pink Floyd classics including Comfortably Numb, Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2, Mother, Run Like Hell and Young Lust, The Wall resonated with millions of fans around the world to become one of the biggest albums ever recorded. Hugely successful upon its release, The Wall was the best-selling album of 1980 in the United States, where it remains in the top five best-selling albums of all time.
The forthcoming tour will offer European fans of Roger Waters and Pink Floyd a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a full band performing The Wall in its entirety, with a specially designed, state-of-the-art stage show to enhance Waters’ epochal masterpiece of alienation and transformation. Album illustrator Gerald Scarfe, who worked on the initial Pink Floyd first tour and the subsequent 1982 film, has this year been once again collaborating with Waters to provide new art, puppetry and inflatable objects for the tour.
To date The Wall has been performed by its creator just 31 times live, including Pink Floyd’s 1980-81 tour in support of the album. Roger Waters resurrected the phenomena in July 1990 with one of the largest concerts ever held to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall. That awe-inspiring event attracted nearly half a million fans to the Potsdamer Platz and while countless millions more around the world watched the extravaganza on television, critics hailed Waters’ creation as the best concert ever, setting the standard for every act since to try to achieve. And Waters reveals that to make sure The Wall is as relevant in 2011 as it was 30 years ago, he has revisited every song and embraced the latest technology and special effects to energise his masterpiece.
“Projection systems now are completely different from what they were then, which means that I would be able to project over the entire 240-foot expanse of the wall … which we couldn’t do in those days,” says Roger. More important to Waters than the theatrics is The Wall’s political and social commentary and he is planning to use the construction of the wall to honour soldiers who have lost their lives in battle. The rogerwaters.com website is running an appeal to relatives of those lost in war to submit photographs which Waters will project on The Wall during the show so that each victim becomes, in effect, another brick.
“When we first did it, we were after the end of the Vietnam War, and we’re right now in the middle of wars in Iraq andAfghanistan, so there’s a very powerful anti-war message in The Wall. There was then and there still is now,” he notes. ”This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent lost in the intervening years,” he adds.
Having only been performed live in the United States, Germany and the UK previously, the tour will allow fans aroundEurope their first (and possibly the last) chance to see The Wall for themselves in their own country’s. Prior to the European dates, Roger Waters’ The Wall Tour will hit the road in North America for a 50-date North American tour starting in September 2010. The latest details on Roger Waters’ The Wall Tour, and more, can be found via the artist’s newly re-launched website, www.rogerwaters.com. Waters is personally involved with the site and is using it to communicate with his fans across the globe.
And he has used the forum to confirm that these concerts will likely mark the end of his performing days. “However, I still have the fire in my belly, and I have something to say”.
